As the end of the summer approaches, so does the push to save high school freshman sports programs in the Liberty Union High School District. Our community has been given an opportunity to help prevent the elimination of freshman sports programs at Liberty, Heritage and Freedom high schools due to budget cuts. By Aug. 1, a total of $48,000 must be raised to keep the programs running through the 2010-11 school year.

Willy’s Bagels and Blends, with the help of the community, is committed to raising $5,000 toward the freshman sports fund. Both Willy’s Bagels and Blends locations – 390 West Country Club Drive, across from Heritage High School, and 1155 Second St., in the Safeway shopping center near Liberty High School, will offer three custom school shirts for sale from now till Aug. 1. The price is $15 dollars. All proceeds go toward the $48,000 mark.

To augment the shirt sales, supporters can enjoy breakfast at either Willy’s locations on Saturday, July 31, and a portion of the day’s sales will go toward the freshmen sports fund effort.
