Curtain goes up for ‘Gypsy’

The award-winning Broadway musical “Gypsy” runs for two weekends beginning Friday, Aug. 17 at the Nick Rodriguez Community Center, 213 F St. in Antioch.

Directed by Bryan Anthony and choreographed by Stacey Dempsey, Arthur Laurents’ story (rated PG) tells the tale of Rose, June and Louise on their trip across the United States during the 1920s, when vaudeville was dying out and burlesque was born. The show features classic tunes by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim that include “Let Me Entertain You” and “Everything’s Coming Up Roses.”

The cast spotlights the talents of Delaney Green as Baby June, Amelia Towse as Baby Louise, Aaron Billeci as Tulsa, Rio Teixeira as Herbie, Megan McNesby as June, Brandi Morgan as Louise, and Jordan Lampi as Madame Rose. The production is presented by Stage Right Conservatory Theatre, Inc. and produced by arrangement with Tams-Witmark Music Library, Inc.

Performances are scheduled for Aug. 17, 18, 24 and 25 at 7 p.m.; Aug. 18, 19, 25 and 26 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors $8, and $5 for children 10 and under.
