Kelsey Cast delivers for the Antioch 11-12 All-Stars

Antioch’s senior and 11-12-year-olds and East County’s 10-11-year-olds were forced to the elimination bracket early in tournament play. As of Wednesday, only Antioch’s senior softball team was still alive.
The senior team claimed a 7-6 win over Peachbowl from Yuba City in the first round of the Division 2 playoffs, but were unable to hold off a tough Redwood Empire team in the next round, losing 8-2. The Antioch Senior All-Stars faced Peachbowl again on Wednesday for the chance to jump back into the winner’s bracket against Redwood Empire.
Antioch’s 11-12 All-Stars lost to Peachbowl 4-2 in their first-round game. Kyra Gallego, Clarissa Im and Megan Felix all went 1-for-3. Next, Antioch’s 11-12 All-Stars brought their bats out for a 9-1 victory over Linden. Kylie Cast earned her 24th win of the season, going the distance. Julia Odom went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
After Antioch continued its hitting barrage in a 10-0 victory over Intermountain and an 11-3 win over Northridge, Cast picked up wins 25 and 26. Against Northridge, Cast, Odom, Felix and Michaela Vanderklugt each contributed 2-for-4 performances.
But the 11-12 All-Stars season ended in a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Peachbowl in 10 innings, nine of which were pitched by Cast.
The youngest local team to make the District 2 playoffs, East County’s 10-11 team saw no shortage of runs – on either side of the scoreboard. The East County All-Stars prevailed in a 34-4 opening round victory over Suisun American. After that, the team finished on the wrong end of a 24-8 blowout at the hands of Gilroy.
Bumped to the elimination bracket, East County responded with vigor. The 10-11 All-Stars thumped Land Park Pacific 21-1 on Monday. Upon returning to the winner’s bracket, however, East County faced Gilroy again – with everything on the line. The Gilroy All-Stars prevailed in a 23-6 division-winning victory.
