Delta Diablo Sanitation District (DDSD) has earned the prestigious Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award from the National Purchasing Institute. The award recognizes excellence in innovation, professionalism, e-procurement, productivity and leadership attributes of procurement departments. DDSD is one of only 38 government agencies in California to receive the award, one of the most coveted awards bestowed on a public procurement operation.
A determining factor in DDSD’s success is the newly introduced online bidding process for suppliers and service providers, which streamlines procurement and opens opportunities for vendors to be directly notified when DDSD is seeking contracts or sourcing materials and services. The long-term benefits of a more competitive process can result in cost savings to DDSD, which can be passed along to customers.
“The award speaks to DDSD’s dedication to continuous improvement, excellent customer service, professional standards of integrity and fairness, and best practices in facilitating public procurement and materials management,” said the Purchasing Manager Denni Baumer.
DDSD is one of only three sanitation agencies nationwide receiving the award this year. According to the California Special Districts Association, there are currently 3,300 Special Districts in California alone. Special Districts are distinct and separate local government entities that deliver specific public services such as wastewater or utilities, unlike cities or counties, which provide a wide range of diverse services throughout their jurisdictions.
