Friends and community supporters of A Place of Learning (APOL) in Brentwood gathered recently to celebrate the heroes and heart of the program: the tutors. Tutors were recognized for giving their time throughout the school year to invest in the educational growth of students in need.

While the guests of honor enjoyed Tutor Appreciation Day, many said their greatest reward is watching students – 45 of whom attended the event – excel in their course work and grow in confidence. Although the students represent a variety of ages and need, most of them are elementary school children.

The event, chaired by APOL President Jim Sullivan and Coordinator Laura Ceja, featured short speeches given to the tutors by children and parents, accompanied by flowers and personal gifts. Each tutor received an attractive certificate of recognition compliments of County Supervisor Mary Piepho.
