Oakley Councilman Jim Frazier was honored as Citizen of the Year for his efforts on the council and his work on the nonprofit organization Friends of Oakley. The former planning commissioner was also recognized for his dedication to the Special Kids Foundation as well as his involvement in other community organizations, including implementing a trust fund for the Nunn/Wilson children.

He was met at SFO by his family and members of the Patriot Guard Riders, who then escorted them through pouring rain and high winds to his home in East County. The entourage was greeted there by two dozen well-wishers, including members of the Brentwood Police Department and the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District. Spc. Schultz, who attended Liberty High School, will return to Iraq when his 30-day leave is over.

A train stopped too close to the crossing at Cypress Road in Oakley, resulting in the crossing arms remaining down for 15 minutes until the train moved. Several frustrated motorists chose to drive around them. An Amtrak train barreled through at 60 mph - fortunately, no one was crossing at the time.
