Holy Rosary’s sixth-grade American CYO basketball team won its second seventh-grade tournament of the season by taking first place at the Holy Rosary Seventh Grade American Christmas Tournament.

Holy Rosary outshot the squad from Holy Spirit of Fairfield in the opening game, winning 39-24 in a closely contested battle through three quarters, then running away with it in the fourth quarter. Holy Rosary’s balanced offense was led by Kylie Cast and Sarah Morales, both of whom chipped in with nine points, followed by Nubia Wilson with seven and Sunmi DaSilva with six.

In the championship game, Holy Rosary’s sixth-grade squad matched up against Holy Rosary’s seventh-grade American team, which advanced to championship by beating St. Agnes of Concord. Holy Rosary’s sixth-graders came out firing on all cylinders, jumping out to a 24-0 lead and coasting to a 36-13 championship, bringing home the gold medal for their fifth consecutive Thanksgiving and Christmas Tournament Championship in the past three years.

Cast scored a team-high 10 points. Morales, DaSilva, Michaela VanderKlugt and Jackie Broussard contributed six each.
