Oakley’s Cub Scout Pack 152 recently pledged to care for Oakley’s Creekside Park as part of Oakley’s Adopt-A-Park program. On June 9, a sign was installed in the park to let visitors know that the scouts will be regularly maintaining the park by picking up trash and clearing weeds.

“I’m very thankful for the contribution Pack 152 is making to this park and, therefore, to the community,” said Oakley Councilmember Pat Anderson. “They have the ability to become a beacon to the Adopt-A-Park program across the city and an example of hands-on citizenry at its finest, giving freely and with all you have to make your community a better place for everyone.”

The Oakley Adopt-A-Park program allows volunteers to adopt a park, trail or landscape area. Individuals or groups assist in cleaning, littler pickup, weeding, planting and other maintenance activities, and are asked to make a one-year commitment, though the frequency can be as seldom as quarterly.

“Their efforts reduce maintenance costs to the city and give the volunteers a greater sense of pride in their community,” said Oakley City Manager Bryan Montgomery.

Residents, businesses, service clubs, churches, school clubs and other groups are encouraged to participate in the Adopt-A-Park Program. For more information, call the Oakley Parks Division at 925-625-7037.
