Few big events in our lives have as many moving parts as a wedding, from the people to the setting to the myriad details required to bring off the ceremony, reception and honeymoon.

When the wedding dust has settled, when the bride and groom return from their vacation in paradise and get back to the mundane mechanics of living, what tangible reminder can they seize on to relive the joy, the stress – all those moving parts – of their Big Day?

Mark Losey understands that a wedding reflects the personality of the bride and groom, and nowhere is that personality more powerfully felt than in the images captured by the camera.

In the photography business for over a quarter of a century, Losey originally owned two photo labs, one in Antioch and another in Brentwood, and added studios in both locations as customer demand grew. Eventually he opened a third studio in Pleasant Hill. Over the years, the business evolved and Losey closed the photo labs, opting to concentrate more on studio photography.

Reflections Photography is the latest evolution in Losey’s photographic career, which concentrates more on wedding and special-event photography, although he still takes family and corporate portraits both in-studio and on-location. His decades of photography experience help him understand the technical and emotional aspects of a wedding, allowing him to get the perfect shot.

Losey works closely with wedding couples and wedding planners to determine the schedule and ensure that he gets all the shots the couple expects. He offers proofs for the couple to view approximately three weeks after a shoot. He also provides custom-designed wedding albums, usually available six to eight weeks after the proofs.

Losey brings with him an easygoing manner, a key factor in helping relax nervous clients. “Weddings are joyous but can often be stressful,” he said. His laid-back demeanor also allows him to capture candid moments at the wedding in addition to more traditional, posed images. “I work with my clients to discuss what their preferences are.”

One of the things Losey loves about his job is being part of the biggest day of his clients’ lives. “Weddings can be stressful, but they’re mainly joyous. I enjoy seeing and feeling that joy.” He adds that while he’s not always acquainted with his clients before their wedding, he enjoys the privilege of being part of their family, if only for the day. And he often sees his couples come back for more family photography. “I get to see the family grow.”
