East Contra Costa Historical Society and Museum is holding its Opening Day celebration on Saturday, March 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the museum grounds, 3890 Sellers Ave. in Brentwood/Knightsen. The event features crafts and vendors, Civil War storytelling, gold panning, a car show, museum tours and more. For more information on Opening Day, call 925-679-1024.

In 2009, the museum will be open from April through October on Saturdays and the third Sunday of the month from 2 to 4 p.m. In September, the museum will host its annual Family Barbeque.

The East Contra Costa Historical Society and Museum is home to a furnished 1878 farmhouse; a schoolhouse from around 1865; antique farm tractors and equipment, Model T automobiles, a fire truck, caboose, Homer’s tool shed, and a kitchen from the 1950s remodeled to resemble a kitchen from the 1800s.
