Deer Valley’s Jae’la McClendon (100 meters), LaShall Hamlin (200 meters), Isis Corane (400 meters), Kourtney Burney (800 meters), Sasha Newman (100- and 300-meter hurdles), Artearra Coffey (long and triple jump) and Kyra Canty (shot put and discus) won 10 of 13 individual events to give the Wolverines a clear advantage. Maria Subias (1600 meters), Kelsey Chapman (3200 yards) and Kelsey Almassey (high jump) were the lone Falcons to win individual events in the girls competition.
Deer Valley finished off its victory by sweeping the relay events. J’Ley Fagalar and Briana Guillory joined Hamlin and Newman to win the girls 4x100-meter relay. In the 4x400-meter relay event, Burney took the place of Hamlin, but the results were the same.
Freedom’s Joey Fajardo (1600 and 3200 meters) and Matthew Beasley (long jump, 110- and 300-meter hurdles) carried the Falcons to victory as multiple-event winners.
Joe Mixon (100 meters), Cristian DelPrado (high jump), Grant Bigness (pole vault), Justin Mortersen (triple jump), Anthony Waddell (shot put) and Joel Sepulveda (discus throw) rounded out the victories for Freedom in individual events in the boys competition.
Despite the loss, Deer Valley’s boys team made an impressive showing. LaVelle Hamlin won the 200- and 400-meter races. Max Geislinger and Adonis Johnson also won individual events for Deer Valley. E.J. and Lionel White combined to win the 4x100-meter relay for Deer Valley with Johnson and Hamlin. The Wolverines also captured the 4x400-meter race.
