Running back Tommy Hoffman hit the end zone with touchdown runs of 15 and 10 yards to spark the Pats attack. The highlight of the game came on the final play of the first half as Pats quarterback Ezra Magalei hit a streaking Dante Nomellini for a 45-yard touchdowns pass to put the game away.
Defensive end David Letuligasenoa pounded the Hawk line, tallying five tackles and setting the tone for the third shutout effort of the season. Noseguard Ryan Taylor and defensive end Alex Einess provided outstanding run support for the JV West defense.
JV East
The Delta Patriots JV East never gave up, but fell to the JV Galt Jr. Warriors 18-14 in a battle of the unbeaten. With temperatures topping 100 degrees and emotions running high, both squads’ front lines held firm through the scoreless first quarter. Patriot defense had outstanding penetration to help stall the early Jr. Warrior drives.
The Jr. Warriors managed a safety last in the first half, then a last second touchdown on their ensuing drive to take a 10-0 lead at half. But the Patriots would not give up. After another solid defensive stand in the third quarter, linebacker Zach Hardy blocked a Jr. Warrior punt and Simba Short picked it up and raced 40 yards for the touchdown.
After Galt tallied their final touchdown midway through the fourth quarter, Pats Quarterback Joseph Tolentino hit Spencer Rohrer for a 96-yard catch-and-run to pull the East close. But their final drive stalled as the game clock wound down.
East Rookies
Saturday brought the Patriots East Rookies with their 3-1 record into Galt High School, taking on the 3-2 Galt Warriors. The Patriots offense controlled the ball for most of the first half delivering 18 points. The first touchdown coming by air by a 46 yard pass from Gripe to Gaines, the second coming from Goldman on a 3-yard run. The last Patriots points came off a half back pass of 28 yards from Bustos to Scott.
The dominating Patriots defense showed their presence by forcing numerous turnovers and not allowing a first down all day. That team defense tacked on another shut out to add to their stellar season, emphasizing “Play as a team and no one can defeat you.” Which is the goal to achieve every game for the Patriots East Rookies.
